FROM THE PRESIDENT

Welcome to the 2008 softball season with the Greater Kingston Softball Association (G.K.S.A.). Our Association consists of House League, Select and “Rep” teams, so whatever level of ball you are interested in playing, you are sure to find it here.

Our organization has been serving the youth of Kingston for many years, providing a safe and fun way for kids of all ages to enjoy this great sport.  Many players continuing to play from “T-Ball” all the way through to Jr. Ladies and Men, returning summer after summer to enjoy the game.  Our volunteers work year round to try to bring the best softball experience possible to our children and youth.

Please visit our website at www.greaterkingstonsoftball.com throughout the season to check on schedules, diamond locations and to obtain contact information.

Feel free to contact me at any time with your concerns and ideas, or if you wish to volunteer in some capacity.  I can be reached by e-mail at impauto@kos.net or by phone at 613-634-1756 or 613-542-2127.

Enjoy your season!!        Mike Snelgrove

JOIN US FOR A “FREE” FUN DAY

All ages are welcome to join in a free Fun Day being held on April 12,2008 at Welborne Public School, 190 Welborne Ave.  Just bring your running shoes and ball glove.  Registration for events will begin at 9:30 am. Fun will be from 10-230 pm including hot dog & drink for lunch.

PLAY BINGO AND SUPPORT THE LEAGUE!!

The bingos are run by Paul Webster and his trusty group of volunteers and will provide a large amount of the monies needed for the organization.

UMPIRING

REMINDER

Please remember to sign your child up in the division in which they were born regardless if they were born at the beginning or end of that year.   Most divisions are comprised of children within a 2-year age span and therefore important for them to be playing with other children in their own age group.  Children who are in the 2nd year of their respective division have the option of moving up one level only.

WAITING LIST

The number of teams in each division will be calculated at our meeting after the last registration on April 5th. Please make sure that your registration form reaches us by then to avoid having your child’s name go on a waiting list.

Representative League

Registration Fees -    Jr. Mite and Mite $125    All other ages $150

The Representative League has been serving the youth of the community for over twenty years. In that time we have maintained competitive teams for boys and girls ranging from seven to twenty-one years of age. We are proud of our qualified coaches and volunteers who give many hours of time to make our organization the prestigious one it is today. During our longevity, we have brought home many bronze, silver and gold provincial and eastern Canadian medals and much recognition to Kingston in the sport of fastball. Our athletes have achieved individual awards as well at both the provincial and Eastern Canadian level with awards of top pitcher, top batter and most valuable player. Some have even received scholarships to post secondary schools.  We would like to invite the youth of the city of Kingston to come out to our tryouts and find out what caliber of ball we offer. Come and visit us at the cultural services Leisure Showcase on Friday, March 28 and Saturday, March 29.

The season runs from May till August and the travel area is from Kingston to Trenton with most home games played at the Cloverdale diamonds at the Cataraqui arena.  Enjoy seeing some of the province and making new and lasting friendships through your travels. Maybe even bring home a Provincial or National medal.

Please contact the coach of your division for tryouts, for other information call Les Ernst at 384-0228.

Come out and enjoy the sunshine and the thrill of competition

SELECT PROGRAM

Select players participate in competitive tournament play in addition to playing on their House League teams. The program is designed to provide house league players with an opportunity for more challenging play without the time commitment needed to play on a full time representative team.

The Greater Kingston Softball Association intends to develop select teams at each division where interest is shown. Select teams will have additional practice time and participate in out-of-town tournaments as well as provincial championships.  In 2006, GKSA teams captured Champions Gold for Mite Boys in Orleans and Consolation Gold for Bantam Girls in Brampton

If you are interested in participating in the select program, or if you are interested in coaching this exciting development opportunity please make a note on your registration form or call the Select Convenor, Paul Taylor at 384-2703 (ptaylor18@cogeco.ca)
